"I was interested in failure. When school doesn't work for students - what's not working? When our aspirations and expectations are too low - what is that about?"

Eric was diagnosed with 11 different learning disabilities when he arrived at Brown University. His Royce Fellowship launched a decade of work in innovative education initiatives including a nationwide urban debate league and the launch of the Brooklyn Laboratory Charter School.

This audio story is part of "20 Years of Royce" - a series celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Royce Fellowship, which supports Brown University undergraduates as they carry out independent projects of their own design in locations across the United States and around the world. Stories produced by Liza Yeager '17.
