Our Experiences in Science
A physics and Africana concentrator and Royce Fellow, Jamelle founded a campus coalition called Inertia: Investment in Black Scientists to encourage Brown and research universities to invest in the success of black science students and faculty. In an effort to redress inequity of underrepresentation and isolation, she also co-organized a course (group independent study) entitled Race and Gender in the scientific community.
This specific project is her senior capstone in Africana studies intended to describe issues faced by black scholars pursuing science degrees based on interviews, research and self reflection. The composition includes a series of monologues spoken by actresses and uses the four fundamental forces of the universe metaphorically.
